ABOUT THE ACADEMY

Theodorou Academy of Jiu Jitsu, Inc. is owned by Nick Theodorou. From 1990 to 2001, Sensei Theodorou was the head instructor of the self-defense program at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. During that time, he trained over 1,100 students in realistic self-defense techniques. Sensei Theodorou has operated a school in Watertown, Massachusetts since 2001, teaching adults and teens practical and effective street self-defense.

The school relocated to its present facility in Watertown in 2001 with a special emphasis on adult and teen education. Teaching out of the Tumblekids gymnastics facility, our school provides our students with one of the largest, most comfortable and safest matted areas in the Boston metro vicinity.

CLASS FORMAT

WARM UP - Our classes begin with a variety of warm ups and fitness conditioning drills designed to help get you ready for the remainder of the class in a fun and challenging way. New students are encouraged to do what they can and are never forced to do more than is comfortable. Over time, the student's level of conditioning will increase.

DRILLS - Each class will have drills related to fundamentals: for example: stances, falling, blocking and striking. Students will work with different formats, equipment and techniques to learn and improve upon their street fighting strikes. We vary the drills class to class to keep things interesting and fun.

DEFENSE TOPIC - Next, we provide a topic of the week where the theme of the Jiu Jitsu techniques taught will center around a particular response, assault or subject. This is a great way to see variations of the theme throughout the week.

BELT TECHNIQUES - Finally, we end each class with the individual student learning specific techniques for their skill level. During this section, a student works off of a set curriculum preparing for his promotion to the next belt level.
